[ WELL it's nice to get a message from someone who she recognizes, when there are some personal details that have been requested. ]
Hello, Fitz.
What does that imply? Big spoon or little spoon? I'm afraid I do not understand.
My ideal contract partner would be a kind and compassionate person who I can call my friend.
What I miss most about home is being able to see all of my family.
And...I suppose that I would say I prefer any time I am with someone, that it is long and loving. [ who would want quick and dirty??? a question for the ages. ]
[ he feels the exact same way. and if there is a dorky grin on his face as he reads her message and then rereads it, that is no one's business but his own. ]
Daphne. Hello. It's very good to hear from you.
It's ... well, it's about when you are sleeping in the same bed as someone and. Well, if you prefer to be the person being held or the person holding the other. The spoon thing is because the two are lined up with the little spoon's back to the big spoon's front, just like spoons nested into one another in a drawer. Which- Which one would you rather be?
That sounds like the dream. Almost too much to ask for, maybe. Have you met someone like that yet?
Tell me about your family. I miss mine as well - we aren't actually related, but ... apart from my mum they are the people who mean the most to me in the whole world.
That's fair. It'd be nice if it always was that way. [ loving? yes. but sometimes there is an urgency there that he knows only too well. knows what it's like to only have a few minutes that have to count. because the universe hates you and it's all you get. ]
[ she doesn't know how to use emojis or make little :) faces but if she did, that's where a smiley face would go because she sure is smiling. ]
Oh! That explanation clears that up, then. The little spoon, then. I would prefer to be held, I think. Most of the time, anyway. It does make me feel happy. Safe.
I am contracted to my sister, who is my friend. My closest friend here, really. Her name is Eloise. We are very different and were not especially close at home, but she had been here over a year when I arrived. She has grown a lot here, and honestly, as have I. It perhaps may be selfish to admit that I would hope someday to find a contract partner who I may experience love with too, but I know that may not be so common.
Oh, I have heard that those who are not related by blood can sometimes be the closest friends of all. My family is very close. There are eight siblings and my mama. Our papa died when I was young. My mama is named Violet, and my siblings from eldest to youngest are, Anthony, Benedict, Colin, (myself), Eloise, Francesca, George, and Hyacinth. Will you tell me about your family, too? The ones you may not be related to but I can tell you clearly love.
Do you have a preference? Am I meant to not ask you in return? [ blush blush BLUSH, but the words fall from her fingers before she stops them. ]
[ is his heart beating a tiny bit faster when he reads those words from her? yeah, maybe. he almost feels guilty but ... yeah, he definitely has a crush on her and he can't help it. ]
It's a pretty common expression in my time. But it's weird, comparing people to cutlery. I prefer to hold someone over being held. But I guess that can also be nice. Depends on the person. I would like for you to feel happy and safe.
That seems like a good arrangement. Definitely someone you can trust. I wonder if it's common. Eloise is your sister? I do maintenance on her printing presses at The Sharp Tongue. She's one of the first people I met here. What a small world. I don't ... well, there is nobody here that I knew before coming here. There are a few people I knew of but I have never met them before.
I haven't been here long enough to know if that is common or not but ... honestly, it is something I would much prefer, too. Having someone to trust and at the very least like. I don't think it's selfish to want that for oneself and ... even if it is, it's just human, just natural. I honestly have a hard time wanting anything less or different myself.
Sometimes you meet people who end up meaning everything to you. There doesn't have to be a blood connection, I think. I am glad to hear your family is close. Eight siblings? That is a lot. Do all of you get along with each other? And, I can't help but notice that you are named in alphabetical order. That is the first time I have seen something like this. Your parents picked beautiful names for all of you.
My family ... We originally were just colleagues at work if you can believe it but ... a lot has happened in the last five years since we met that has linked us together. There is Jemma, who ... I have known for 13 years at this point. She's a scientist (biochemistry) and my lab partner. She's a genius, really. She's English. Then there is Daisy. She works with computers and also has powers - she can manipulate vibrations. She like most of the others is American, actually. I'm from Glasgow but have lived in the US since I was 17. And there is Coulson and May, who ... they are older so they are kind of like our parents. They are good people, people to look up to. And there is Mack and Elena. And others who left like Hunter (he's also English) and Bobbi.
No, you- You should ask if you want to. You can always ask me anything. I- I prefer it that way too. Definitely.
You are kind. I wish for you to feel safe and happy, too.
Yes! It is good to know you are working together. Anthony was here for a time, but he left just before I showed up. Another woman from our home is here, too, though I did know how her before coming. She meets my family in the future from where I last knew. Her name is Kate Sharma.
I have met someone who is engaged and planning a wedding, so it is certainly not unheard of. I do think you are right. It is very human to crave such a connection. [ best and worst case scenario in one twisted loop would be to have simon there with her; daphne can't fathom the idea of thinking he'd be with other people than herself, though. ]
Thank you. Mama and Papa did a fine job, I agree. The names suit us each. Eloise and I did not get on so well, to be honest. It is different here. I am closest to Francesa. The boys are all in their own worlds quite often, and Hyacinth is so young but her curiosity is endearing. I think we all get along better than I have observed in other families. We are close and enjoy the company of one another. [ there's a sting of sadness over missing family dinners, at not currently having a house full of bridgertons. ]
Did you travel back to Scotland much at all? I am afraid I do not quite know what all of those words you have used are, but I would like to learn. Granted, I am happy to learn the names and details of those you call family. I am familiar with what a scientist is, but from the years I have lived in. What is biochemistry? And I do not know what a computer is. [ doesn't know that she's holding one in her had, essentially, but also just hasn't heard that word! ]
You seem like a gentle soul, Fitz. I like that about you.
